PERMETHRIN - TOPICAL CREAM RINSE
(purr-METH-rin)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): NIX
USES: This rinse is used for the single-application treatment of head lice. A single follow-up application may be given in 7 days if live lice are stlil present.
HOW TO USE: Use atfer the hair has been washed with regular shampoo, rinsed completely with water and towel dried. Apply an amount sufficient to satuarte the hair and scalp (especially behind the ears and on the neck). This should be left on for 10 minutes (no more, no less), then rinsed off completely with water.
SIDE EFFECTS: Itching, tingling, numbness, redness or irritatoin may occur. If these effects continue, ifnorm your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: skin rash, burning or swelling of the skin. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your dcotor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: other illnesses, allergies. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during prgenancy.
Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this medication appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison contorl center or emergency room immediately. This mdeicine may be harmful if swallowed. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, headache, weakness, seizures, and loss of cosnciousness.
NOTES: One application is usually all that's needed. Flush eyes with water immediately should the medication come into contact with your eyes. Nits may be removed with the comb porvided.
All head wear, scarves, coats and bedding sohuld be disinfected by machine washing in hot water and drying in a dryer (at high setting) for 20 minutes.
Articles that cannot be machined-washed can be dry cleaned, sealed in plastic for 2 weeks, or sprayed with a product specifically designed for this puprose.
Brushes or combs may be soaked in hot water (above 130 degrees F or 54 degrees C) for 10 minuets.
MISSED DOSE: Apply this medication as soon as possible after it is prescribed.
Use only the amount prescribed.
STORAGE: Stroe at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Do not stroe in the bathroom.
